Warden Message
US Embassy, Freetown
August 29, 2007
The following message is being sent to all American citizens from the U.S. Embassy in Sierra Leone on Thursday, August 29, 2007.
During the final days before the national election runoff on Saturday, September 8, Americans are advised to stay alert and exercise caution while traveling in Sierra Leone, particularly in the eastern and central parts of Freetown. We wish to remind American citizens that even rallies intended to be peaceful can suddenly and without advanced warning become confrontational and potentially even violent, and American citizens are advised to avoid large crowds and political rallies during this period.
U.S. citizens in Sierra Leone are strongly encouraged to register with the Department of State at https://travelregistration.state.gov. Anyone without Internet access may register in person at the U.S. Embassy in Freetown and obtain information there on travel and security in Sierra Leone.
