Warden Message - 2007 Sierra Leone Elections
Warden Message
U.S. Embassy – Freetown
August 7, 2007
The following message is being sent to all American citizens from the U.S. Embassy in Sierra Leone on Monday, August 7, 2007.
During the final days of national election campaigning, political rallies are planned throughout Sierra Leone. In Freetown, large political rallies are planned at and near the National Stadium August 7-9. American citizens in Freetown are advised to avoid the vicinity around the National Stadium and to exercise caution on all major thoroughfares. The rallies are expected to draw enthusiastic crowds. We wish to remind American citizens, however, that even rallies intended to be peaceful can suddenly and without advanced warning become confrontational and potentially even violent.
U.S. citizens in Sierra Leone are strongly encouraged to register with the Department of State at https://travelregistration.state.gov. Anyone without Internet access may register in person at the U.S. Embassy in Freetown and obtain information there on travel and security in Sierra Leone. The U.S. Embassy is located at Leicester/Regent in Freetown and our telephone numbers for American citizen emergencies are 232 22 515 000 or 232 76 515 000.
