When Ambassador Hull presented his credentials in August 2004, he commited to frequent visits throughout the Sierra Leone to stay abreast of developments.  During December 17-20, he visited four towns in four districts: Ropolon in Tonkolili district, Bo, Pujehun, and Taiama and Njala in the Moyamba district.

In Ropolon Ambassador Hull dedicated a Special Self Help (SSH) project in the Ropolon Community. The project cost Le 23.7 million and provided a grain store and drying floor for the people of Ropolon to assist in the harvesting and storage of their crops.

In Bo, Ambassador Hull toured the American Corner in the Bo Library. American Corners are partnerships between US Embassies and local libraries that provide current and reliable information about the US via book collections, magazines, the internet and through local programming to the general public. Ambassador Hull read to school children in the Bo Library as part of an outreach program to promote literacy. Delivering his skills as a former school teacher, he encouraged students to read during the holidays and improve their own personal education.

In Taiama, the Ambassador toured the health center and visited three schools. Some students participating in the tour are supported by Friends of Sierra Leone, an organization set up by former Peace Corps Volunteers and other Americans who want to help Sierra Leone. The Ambassador also toured the University Campus and Institute of Agricultural Research in Njala.

Ambassador Hull also met with the Paramount Chiefs of Pujehun, Bo and Taiama. He listened to District Councilors and civil society representatives, and was greeted by welcoming community members and their leaders throughout the trip.
