Launching of VOA Radio Station

Freetown, Sierra Leone

In collaboration with the U.S. Embassy, the Voice of America (VOA) radio has launched a 24-hour digital broadcast station in Freetown, Sierra Leone.  VOA will commence broadcast on 1st November 2002 on a frequency of 102.4 MHz FM Band. The transmitting power of the station is 2000 Watts.  The station is designed, constructed, installed and managed by Allieu M. Shaw, Principal elecommunications Engineer and Managing Director of AISOW Technologies Corporation, USA by a contract from the U.S Government's International Broadcasting Bureau (IBB), in Washington DC.  Mr. Shaw is a Sierra Leonean-American who has constructed, and is managing several other FM stations for the Voice of America in various countries in Africa.  KISS 104 FM in Bo will continue to be a VOA Affiliate station under the management of Mr. Andrew Kroma.

Daily programming of the station will include international news (with emphasis on African issues), music, sports, educational and cultural programs.
