The United States Ambassador announced in a statement that she is pleased the United States Government contributed an additional $300,000 to help continue the United Nations Humanitarian Air Service in operation at present. Ambassador Perry said that “Transportation of humanitarian assistance for the West African Region is essential.” The United States Department of State is committed to the goals of this operation.” Provided through the Department of State’s Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration, these funds will enable the World Food Program to continue its air service between Freetown, Conakry, and Monrovia for several additional weeks. With the help of international partners like the United States, the UN Humanitarian Air Service facilitates the movement of personnel to provide support and assistance to populations affected by war and natural disasters. The United States is committed to enhancing the effectiveness of humanitarian efforts throughout the West African Region by enabling the World Food Program to continue offering its air service and calls on other donors to continue to support the effort as well.
