The United States commends the people of Sierra Leone on the presidential runoff election held on September 8.  The generally calm and orderly process reflects the consolidation of the democratic process in the country.  We praise the independent National Electoral Commission and the Sierra Leone Police for their impartiality and professionalism throughout the elections.

We urge Sierra Leoneans to continue their laudable respect and patience for the integrity of the electoral process as the vote tally is certified by the NEC preparatory to the final announcement of the results.
