FREETOWN – The United States Ambassador to the Republic of Sierra Leone, the Honorable June Carter Perry, is pleased to be cutting the ribbon signifying the reopening of the 34th Military Hospital’s Laboratory at Wilberforce Barracks on 30 June following a six-month renovation. The renovation, funded by the United States government with oversight from the U.S. Department of Defense, was completed at a cost of $50,000.
In addition to the ribbon cutting, Ambassador Perry will officially turn over medical laboratory equipment and supplies valued in excess of $300,000, including two CD4 counters, machines that are vital in measuring white blood cells and treating patients on antiretroviral medication. The equipment will be divided and added to the newly renovated lab and the Family Health Clinic in Bo. The renovated lab and new equipment will greatly enhance Sierra Leone’s ability to test for and treat a variety of infectious diseases, including HIV/AIDS.
