The United States Embassy is pleased to announce that Immigrant Visa interviews will be processed in Freetown starting in May 2009, ending a 12-year hiatus. All immigrant visa applicants will be notified by mail about their interview dates.
To apply for an immigrant visa, foreign citizens must be sponsored by U.S. citizen relatives, U.S. green card holders, or prospective employers, and must be the beneficiary of approved petitions. Petitions are filed by the sponsoring individual at the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) Office nearest them.
The Embassy is aware of the hardships faced by visa applicants who had to endure travel to other countries to process their applications. To that end, the United States Embassy resumed processing of Non-Immigrant visas in 2006 and Diversity Visas earlier this year. The addition of immigrant visa services is the final step in the process to resume full U.S. visa operations in Freetown.
