The United States Embassy in Freetown congratulates President Koroma on his courageous leadership and the Sierra Leonean Judiciary for the conclusion of this high profile cocaine case. We compliment the Government of Sierra Leone for its interest in protecting its citizens from the scourge of narcotics especially as the future of Sierra Leonean youth could be at risk. We encourage continued recognition of this threat and congratulate the nation on passage of the Anti-Drug Legislation.
The United States works closely with countries around the world, including Sierra Leone, on a number of development issues such as the threat of illegal drugs in West Africa which could hinder progress in security sector reform and the rule of law. We welcome the Government’s commitment to the war on drugs and continue to value the already robust relationship between our two countries.
