The Ambassador of the United States to Sierra Leone, June Carter Perry, nominated Justice Salimatu Koroma to a Roundtable for Women in Justice at the Department of State in Washington, D.C., where she will be hosted by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
On March 12, 2008, in honor of International Women’s Day, the United States will host a global forum for women’s justice, bringing together judges from around the world to recognize the global severity of violence against women and women’s lack of access to justice, share best practices to combat violence against women and improve women’s legal enfranchisement, and develop an Action Plan to identify and combat the most urgent obstacles to women’s justice. Panelists at the Roundtable will include Retired United States Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, Ambassador Shirin Tahir-Kheli, Senior Advisor to the Secretary of State for Women’s Empowerment, Kim K. Azzarelli, Vice President, Associate General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Avon Products, Inc., and John B. Bellinger, Legal Adviser, United States Department of State, as well as justice professionals, legal experts, and representatives of international organizations.
The United States Embassy looks forward to Justice Koroma’s positive participation in this program and hopes that her experience will empower her with knowledge to maximize her potential as a legal professional in Sierra Leone.
