United States Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Thomas N. Hull, visited the district Town of Makeni and the villages of Panlap and Kalangba on January 16-17 on a fact-finding trip to better understand development and security in the Bombali District. The Ambassador was accompanied on his tour by Resident Minister North: Mr. Alex Kargbo, the Provincial Secretary: Mr. A.B.S. Samura, The Minister of Labor and Social Security: Mr. Alpha Timbo, members of the Makeni Town and Bombali District Councils, and Paramount Chiefs.
During his visit to Makeni, Ambassador Hull and team attended the US Government sponsored HIV/AIDS musical concert by musical legend Steady Bongo. The concert was organized in collaboration with the RSLAF, to sensitize both civilians and military personnel on the dangers of HIV/AIDS and the effects of stigmatization of people living with AIDS.
Ambassador Hull also commissioned a US Government funded project worth $8,000USD (Le. 23 million). The project assists the Alisa Women’s Farming group by constructing a building for the storage of livestock and the provision of an assortment of farm animals to assist the women to improve livestock framing since most of the farm animals were destroyed during the war.
