NONIMMIGRANT VISA UNIT

Welcome to the Nonimmigrant Visa Unit of the U.S. Embassy in Freetown.  We are pleased that you are interested in visiting the United States, and hope the information on this website will assist you in your preparations.  Most travelers to the U.S. must obtain a visa.  It is important that travelers plan ahead and begin the visa application process well in advance of his/her intended date of travel.

While individual experience may differ, here are the basic steps you should follow and what you can expect throughout the process:

Step 1:     Learn More About the Nonimmigrant Visa Process, such as how we  evaluate  visa eligibility, how to apply for a student or work visa, and answers to other frequently asked questions.

Step 2:     Download and Complete the Visa Application Forms. All applicants worldwide must complete the Nonimmigrant Visa Application online.  For more information, be sure to read this section.

Step 3:      Make an Appointment to interview with a consular officer at our Embassy in Freetown.

Step 4:      Gather the Recommended Supporting Documentation to accompany your nonimmigrant visa application.

Step 5:      Pay the Application Fee at the Siaka Stevens branch of Sierra Leone Commercial Bank.

Step 6:      Have Your Photo Taken. The dimensions we require are different from those used by most photo shops, so be sure to review this section.

Step 7:      Bring Your Application to the U.S. Embassy in Freetown.
