Welcome to the Nonimmigrant Visa Unit of the U.S. Embassy in Freetown. We are pleased that you are interested in visiting the United States, and hope the information on this website will assist you in your preparations. Most travelers to the U.S. must obtain a visa. It is important that travelers plan ahead and begin the visa application process well in advance of his/her intended date of travel.
Sierra Leonean visitors traveling to the United States are required to be in possession of passports that are valid for six months beyond the period of their intended stay in the U.S.
How To Apply For A Non-Immigrant Visa
Step 1 Complete the online Form DS-160 application at: https://ceac.state.gov/GENNIV. Print out your confirmation page. The DS-160 is mandatory for all applicant interviews. Obtain a visa photo. Please see www.ustraveldocs.com for visa photo requirements.
Step 2 Pay the Machine Readable Visa (MRV) fee at any Ecobank branch. Please see www.ustraveldocs.com for current visa fees, a list of EcoBank branches, and other fee payment information.
Step 3 Go to www.ustraveldocs.com to schedule an appointment for an interview at the Embassy, or call the customer care center at 232 (0)78 144 344. Once a receipt is used to schedule an appointment, it will be permanently connected to that interview date.
Step 4 On the appointed day, come to the Embassy for your interview. Please bring your DS-160 confirmation page, EcoBank receipts, and all of the documents you wish to use to support your application.
NOTE: Receipts purchased from Sierra Leone Commercial Bank before March 1, 2011 will remain valid for two months after the date of payment. Applicants who paid the fee but have not yet booked an appointment must schedule an interview through the new appointment system.
