Know The Truth About Diversity Visas
Here's what the U.S.Embassy wants you to Kow
· APPLYING: You can ONLY enter the DV lottery using the Internet address below. If it is discovered you have entered more than once, your application will be automatically disqualified. Only enter once.
· ENTRY/PHOTOGRAPHS: You and only you are responsible for your entry. Your entry will be disqualified if the photographs of you or your family members are incorrect. Check your entry and photographs on the entry before it is sent.
· SELECTION: Not all DV selectees will receive a visa. If you receive a postal notice that you have been selected for further processing, follow the instructions closely and submit requested information quickly. Your case will NOT proceed until the U.S. Government has all of the information they need and contacts you with an appointment date. Do not make travel plans until your visa is issued.
· FEES: There is NO FEE to enter the DV Lottery. You do not need an agent or an attorney to complete your entry or application for you. Winners pay fee ONLY to the U.S. Embassy when a case is being processed. Do not pay fees to anyone but the U.S. Embassy.
· SPONSOR: You do not need a U.S. sponsor – or any sponsor – to qualify for the DV.
· MARRIAGE: You do not need to be married to qualify for a DV. DO NOT engage in a fraudulent marriage in order to receive U.S. immigration benefits. Falsely claiming a marriage relationship will cause you to be ineligible to travel to the U.S. for the rest of your life.
· FAMILY: You MUST include your spouse and all unmarried children who are under the age of 21 at the time you submit your DV entry. Don’t forget to list ALL your family members or you will be disqualified at the interview.
· EDUCATION/EMPLOYMENT: You MUST have one of the following to qualify for the DV:
o A WASSCE or GCE O level results with five credits or better, including one credit in English.
o Two years of qualifying work experience in a U.S. Department of Labor designated field. Check http://online.onetcenter.org to see if your job qualifies. Occupations must fall into Zone 4 or higher to qualify. Do not apply for the DV if you don’t have the required education or two years of relevant work experience.
· E-MAIL: The U.S. Government will NEVER contact you via e-mail to say that you have won the DV.
E-mails saying that you have won the DV are scams and intended to defraud you.
· DOCUMENTS: DO NOT submit fraudulent or misleading documents to the U.S. Embassy. Fraudulent documents never succeed are always evident as such. If you present a fraudulent document, you may be ineligible to go to the U.S. forever.
