Defense Attaché Office
(DAO)The DAO Awareness and Prevention program was launched in 2002 and has seen significant progress in their program activities. The HIV/AIDS office is actively involved in sensitizations, preventions, trainings of senior military officers as well as teachers from Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) schools in the western area, counselors, Military Peer educators, Health Education training, ARV care and support and International training for doctors and nurses in the military and Reproductive Health Literacy course for wives of soldiers and their dependant within the Barracks.
This sensitization also includes civilians working with military personnel and their Dependants. The RSLAF musicians and Lansana Sheriff (Steady Bongo) have been sensitizing RSLAF troops in all Brigades and Battalions through the spread of HIV/AIDS songs.
Promotional and training materials are also provided by DAO office to the RSLAF HIV/AIDS prevention program.
DAO HV/AIDS has started a construction site for Voluntary Confidential Counseling and Testing (VCCT) in the Northern Headquarter in BO.
The office is also in partnership with UN agencies including the UNFPA, UNAIDS, UNAMSIL and the National AIDS Secretariat and partnership has been successful in implementing HIV/AIDS Prevention programs in Sierra Leone.
