I was honored to represent the United States at the inauguration of President Koroma today.  I am optimistic, as are I believe, the people of Sierra Leone for bright future for Sierra Leone.  It is essential that the new government  harness the positive momentum of the elections and the subsequent peaceful transition of power to progress toward its development aspirations.

I assure you, as I assured the Sierra Leonean leaders today during my meetings, that the United States friendship and support for Sierra Leone will remain constant.  We are committed to helping the Sierra Leonean people in their efforts to achieve prosperity and a bright future for themselves and future generations.

I thank the people of Sierra Leone for the warm welcome I received during this short visit, and I look forward our continued engagement with Sierra Leone.
